Orangeworks launch new CSR Team Building Activity – Give Backpack
Before bringing Give Backpack to the Irish Market, our team at Orangeworks wanted to give the charity based team building challenge a go. Even the team building experts need to make time for team building!
Give Backpack is a CSR team building activity in which teams participate in various engaging iPad or tablet based challenges to fill backpacks with essential food and toiletry items for those in need. The backpacks are then donated to our partner charity or your charity of choice.
Orangeworks charity of choice for Give Backpack is the Alice Leahy Trust, a non-political, non-denominational voluntary body that was set up in 1975 as a private charitable trust to provide medical and related services for people who are homeless. The centre is currently open weekday mornings and provides snacks, teas and coffees but most importantly hot showers, washing facilities and clean second-hand clothes to men and women who are sleeping rough.
The Give Backpack activity is played using our Quickfire App. Teams are given a range of questions, challenges and cryptic puzzles to solve. These can be general knowledge questions or related to the charity or company playing. Teams win items to add to their backpacks for every answer submitted. Some answers must come in the form of photos and videos. Items that can be won include non-perishable foods like instant oats, noodles, granola bars and chocolate along with toiletries such as deodorant and toothbrushes. Among many other essentials, we wanted to donate some clothing to the Alice Leahy Trust as we learned they don’t receive items like new T-shirts, hoodies, jeans and runners very often.
After many fun photo challenges and lots of laughter our team building challenge came to an end. The backpacks were filled with essential items for the Alice Leahy Trust and the winning team was revealed. They scored the most points in the fastest time, winning them an extra T-shirt and pair of runners for their backpack.

A comment from Jeanette O’ Brien of the Alice Leahy Trust:
“Our sincerest thanks to all the team in Orangeworks for the wonderful delivery of rucksacks. To have them filled to the brim with so many of the items we use here on a daily basis is great. The toiletries and food items will be used here on our premises or given out to people when they leave. As you know we provide showers here as part of our overall service and while the people who use our service are quite happy with good quality second-hand clothes thanks to your team we can now give out the new jeans, t-shirts, tracksuit bottoms, hoodies and runners also provided and as we said the rucksacks themselves will be of great value to them to carry their few personal items around. Thanks again from all here in the Alice Leahy Trust.”
